A three-sport athlete at Hawthorne High School in California, Ron Mix always wanted to play baseball. He really felt that was his best sport. Somehow he ended up on scholarship at USC, gaining 50 plus pounds and playing tackle long enough to actually start enjoying football.

After wrapping up an illustrious career at Southern California, this native Californian was drafted by two pro football teams. Once as the 10th overall pick of the NFL Baltimore Colts in 1960 and again by the Boston Patriots of the AFL. Traded to the upstart Los Angeles Chargers and soon to relocated San Diego Chargers, Mix excelled as a offensive tackle for 9 seasons. He was known as a powerful blocker who depended on superior technique, quick reads, excellent speed and intellectual understanding of the game.

Ron Mix was an All-AFL standout selection seven times as a tackle and once as a guard. He played in eight AFL-All Star games and was unanimously chosen for the AFL's all time team in 1969. He played for the Los Angeles Chargers (1960) the San Diego Chargers (1961-1969) and the Oakland Raiders (1971). His many accolades include being named 28th I the Pro Football Digest greatest players of all time list in 1998, Chargers Hall of Fame in 1978 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.

While a standout for the Chargers, Mix used his off season time to complete a law degree and became an attorney after retiring from football. He and his wife of 39 years, Patti, market sets of autographed limited-edition art cards of Hall of Fame Players through their web site www.halloffamecards.com.
